That first panel DEFINITELY could use a background. Damnit.

Also, Rose is right. They are giants. Rose is actually 5′7″, Tai Jiang is 7′8″ or something, while the Captain and Commander are 6′4″- 6′5″.
There are normal sized people, just.. Rose is surrounded by giants.

Rose is from Corliss, while Alastair and Oliver are from the more northern areas of Feuerland (think more Scandanavian), so they tend to be taller. People from Corliss are island-dwellers, and are shorter than average.
Tai-Jiang is just abnormally large (he is also from Corliss). He is a giant, literally.
